It’s amazing to think we did C2C in 2000, and I still have the T-shirt (from Kirkby Stephen). It was (and still is) such a comprehensive walk that we wrote a book about it titled “Odin’s Last Rune”.

What began as a pleasant ramble across northern England, became an unusual journey through its history and landscape. Events of the Dark Ages combined with Viking myths to make a marvellous walking adventure.

History, walking, food and old Viking tales – all in one book! It’s available from my website www.goodwalkingbooks.com For all newcomers to the Coast to Coast, this makes a wonderful companion guide book, and good luck on your walk in 2012.

May be good books but it is blatant advertising as said.

I trust that it is better than as advertised on Google Books:-

"Travel memoir of the author's coast-to-coast journey, walking from St Bees on the east coast of Cumbria to Robin Hood Bay near the North Sea. Combines the author's journey with history and myths of the area. Includes photos, illustrations, appendix, recommended reading list and timeline."

Hopefully people will look for St. Bees on the West Coast and not the East Coast of Cumbria wherever that may be. It is Robin "Hood's" Bay and it is more than "Near", the North Sea, for those who finish they are in it!

At least the guy has got his act together down under! Some comprehensive details of planned routes on his blog too inc. WHWay, SDWay and Hadrian's Wall. Can't really knock self-promotion where self-promotion is due... esp. as self-publishing seems to be the way forward for struggling authors these days. And he does mention Sherpa (at least as in Sherpa Expeditions) for luggage transfer...

'Almis Simans, author of Odin’s Last Rune, a guidebook on the trek, did it in 17 days, stopping in different villages, and staying in B&Bs and inns. “Accommodation is the most important thing,” he says. “It can be arranged by a company, like Sherpa Expeditions, who can also take your heavy luggage.” What Almis found most fascinating about the walk was how steeped in history the area is.

- Tom Lawrie, Top Treks: Coast to Coast Walk, AG Outdoor February 2012'

All the best to him I say!

If he mentioned "our" Sherpa company rather than Sherpa Expeditions then I would say OK but mentioning the competition and then advertising on here is a bit much. However I didn't refer to Sherpa as at least it was walking related rather some obscure DVD.

Well, there's a learning curve - I've never heard of the Expeditions people before!

Hi Team,

thanks for all your feedback. Good to know we've got a range of views. C2C is a great walk, and there are lots of Aussies who are planning to do it in the next two years.

cheers... Almis
