I have a week off work starting this weekend and am trying to decide on a week long walk to do.

I live in Bristol and don't want to have to travel too far to get to the start of the walk.

I'm going to carry all my gear so I also want something where I can get a mix of wild camping and campsites.

Anyone got any suggestions? I was thinking southern half of Offa's Dyke path or maybe the start of the SWCP but would love to get some opinions.

Thanks!

The first part of the SWCP is well worth it from Minehead as far as Woolacombe but there is c. 14,000 feet of ascent (and descent!). However lovely views. The next part from Woolacombe to Westward Ho! is relatively flat 1500 feet ascent over 40 miles and then a bit "up and down" after that. I walked for a time with someone who wild camped and they didn't have much trouble finding somewhere, there is a lovely spot on the cliff top just short of Lynmouth - from memory about 1 or 2 miles from there. Navigation is no problem, keep the sea on your right-hand side!

I haven't walked Offa's Dyke but it looks pretty good as well.

If you don't like ups and downs, try the Avon Walkway to Bath and then continue from there on the Kennet and Avon canal towpath to Reading. It is an easy train journey back home from there.
