Started from KY on that first hot day, got roeasted alive for 8 days then got soaked through the final half day.
Finished in 8 days 9 hours averaging 32 miles a day.
Unlike last time going South to North I found it tough going this time, in the intense windless heat.
Suffered mild heat exhaustion on day 1 on the Cheviots, so stayed with Joyce and Col at Forest View in Byrness - a really great place which I highly recommend.
Had a a nice surprise meeting Les & Heidi on a small summit between Malham and Hebden Bridge.
I will do a full report soon.
Glad this forum is up and running again.

Georgina`s(formerly Gordon) chicks have fledged and she is no longer Psycho grouse. She is happily chatting to and following Pennine wayers again.

We too have finished our recent N-S Pennine Way. Four days of roasting heat then eleven days of rain and finally the last two were quite nice, so we ended with a lovely walk over the Cheviots.

One of the highlights was the wonderful grouse mentioned above and of course meeting Slogger on on Ickornshaw moor !

I wont do a detailed report but I may put a thread together about the equipment used, what worked well and what didn't (there were several items in the latter catagory which made the walk much harder work than it should have been).

Glad the forum's back up and running, let hope everyone finds their way back here.
Les

Well done Slogger,great effort!
Looking forward to reading your write up,as I'm just preparing for a first southbound PW trip (after northbounds in 2010,1978 and 1975).Hopefully be off the start in about two weeks time, and hoping that July will be a lot drier than June was!

Cheers Alan,
I'm working on my blog at the moment. It may take a bit of time as loads of photo's.
I'm sure you will do well on your trip so long as the weather is with you.
I didn't drop down to Dufton, didn't see the point, as I'd been there on my first PW and I would have only passed swifly through. I made a sort of beeline after Little Dunn Fell for the top of High Cup Nick. The terrain was difficult and the going slow, so I probably only saved an hour if that.
I also dropped onto the trail that follows the old rail lines from near Slaggyford to Alston, same distance as the PW which runs parrallel. I was just curious what the path would be like.
I lost half an hour after falling asleep when seeking some respite from the blazing sun under the shade of a tree.
I'll post a link when the blog is finished.
Dave.

My Pennine Way blog is now written and at

Not too many photos, mainly due to mist/low cloud during much of the trip.
