Hi all,

I am planning on walking the Offas Dyke Path in September. I'm going to start planning it all and booking places up but the main question I have is which way should you walk it? I'm thinking of doing it south - north

What do others think?

Ive done it South to North and will do it North to South next time.
I remember the last day from Bodfari to Prestatyn being a bit of a let down, apart from the clifftop path, so it might be a good idea to get this over with early on, which would mean N -S. Apart from that I don't think it matters which way you go.
Dave.

I think that most guidebooks, if you are going to use one, go from South to North.

South to north feels like the right direction. Does anyone have any tips or suggestions for walking the Dyke?

We took 11 days to do it plus a rest day at Knighton.
It's a good walk with good views, some long grass and lots of high stiles, but I have been informed that many have been replaced with gates.
It has lots of ups and downs as it goes across the grain of land. You wont see too many people walking the route and you will have to remain aware. It may have improved but when we did it the way-marking wasn't brilliant in places.
Good luck.
Dave.

I took 11 days in 2006 going north to south, just after a heatwave, met very few people indeed. It is harder in the northern parts. If I did it again I would walk south to north. All I have is a memory of stiles and stiles!

Just remembered that we were met with tea and cake at every place we stayed bar, one pub at five crosses or something like that!

No, do it north to south.
No sane person would decide to spend several days walking towards Pretatyn !

Actually I had a last minute change of plan and have booked to do it north south. The Trailblazer guide reccommend doing it north - south and they are usually very good.

When I did it going from S->N I bumped into a couple of others coming the other way. I think with Offa it doesn't really matter, apart from the sun constantly in your face - if you get any!!

Good luck!
