I read the authorities are now going to put C2C markers on the entire length of the walk. I know the Lake District National Park have always been against this, but seems they have now changed their mind.

Bit of a shame really,,even though the route is well worn in most places, the absence of signposts in the Lakes did at least give it a bit of a wilderness feel....

Hope this doesn't result in walkers thinking that because it's signed, maps & compass will not be necessary and resulting in more call outs for the mountain rescue.

I hope the waymarking does not include on the Fells themselves, and that it is restricted to areas of habitation.
Even marker cairns on and near summits have long been taboo are discouraged and only remain and are added to by the ignorant who think you should add a stone as you pass one.
Even historic cairns have been destroyed in the pass by a certain group and I cant help but feel the same would happen to waymarking on or near the higher ground.
Remember how short lived the sfaety marker poles lasted on the Ben Nevis plateau before they were hacked down.
Dave.

The wayposts are only going to be erected where the route crosses roads, not on open fells.

Thanks goodness for that, I had visions of small marker posts all the way across the top of Loft Beck and Greenup Edge where most people seem to have problems. Are they really necesary at road crossings?

Loc: Earth. Usually,but not exclusi...
There are so many different ways over the fells, you would be confused. A different way each time, with maps compass and mr GPS(only for checking location, when all else fails)of course.
I would like to see the C2C become a national trail,if only to give it some protection, but signs over the fells....no thank you. If I am going to get lost...I am going to get lost MY WAY.

That's the atitude RT. Some people complain about routes not having sufficient waymarking and would be quite happy to see signposts every few hundrend metres or so. My attitude to that mindset is, 'Learn how to read a map and navigate', and be prepared to go wrong in the process, like we all did in the begining.
You can't rely totaly on signposts anyway, they get turned around by mischievous persons, stolen as souvenirs, knocked over, and removed by puritans.
Study the map and or guidebook to find your way, it's the only way really.
Dave.

I am contacting the C2C site as it has the most readers. To completely change the subject. Does anybody know how to contact the Administrator for the South Downs Way as "[censored]" is putting filth on the site like last week and it needs to be removed asap.
