Hi John, the coast to coast walk is such a busy walk , I don't think you will need to arrange company, especially at the time of year! I would expect that you would have around 30 people walking on the same day as you. Good Luck

Hi Les. THe plan(if my feet will let me) is as follows.
Ennerdale Bridge(Fox n Hounds,Camping)
Honister Hause (YHA)
Thorney How YH
Patterdale YHA
Shap (THe Bulls Head? Camping)
Kirby Stephen (Pennine View Camping)
Keld Lodge (Camping as long as it's not -4 again like last time)
Reeth (Orchard Caravan/Camping Park,Hopefully get a van for the night)
Richmond (The Old Brewery, thank you nice Sherpa people)
Ingleby Cross,(Blue Bell Inn camping(already sortrd that out with the landlord Steve.)
Lion Inn (Camping)
Grosmont or Littlebeck (Camping,undecided)
Then RHB for a pint or twenty.

*This is NOT a PUB CRAWL*
Probably not a pub crawl would be more accurate,as we will possibly miss out the Dog and Partridge.
Note the "possibly".
That might work for us if my bazzookas bugger off and I remain blister free.

Hi RT,
Looks like a nice plan, I'd like to do it E-W next time I do the walk. I think I'd plan on taking a similar amount of time as you. The Little Beck to Richmond section is the part I'm unsure of how to breakdown, last time we spent too many days across there.
Anyway, summer 2013 is booked for the Dales Highway and hopefully the Westmorland way later on so maybe another C2C in 2014 before my dream LEJOG is 2015 (knees and funds permitting).
Good luck with the walk, hope the feet are ok !

Hi Les,
You will like the Dales High Way. Did it this year over 6 days but on day 3 went from Malham along the Pennine Way route to Horton via Penyghent and thence over Ingleborough and Whernside dropping down the quiet unmarked western slope to the road into Dent. Was a bit too muddy in parts but hey ho.
Anyway, last time out over the C2C in June this year I stayed at St Giles Farmhouse at Colburn (Jane is a lovely hostess) thence to Osmotherley (a steady 21 miles via East Harsley and Mt Grace Priory). Next day I walked to August Guest House nr Rosedale in heavy wind and rain (basically to the road south of the Lion Inn and down the track to the valley bottom and south for a mile or so). Again about 23 miles and ok in nice weather ( I guess!). I then planned to do the Lyke Wake walk route to Ravenscar and up to Boggle Hole but weather forbad and I walked to Grosmont and then to Whitby (about 18 miles). So 3 days from Richmond. It should work in reverse but if you want to start at RHB then you can walk due east from RHB and hit Grosmont thus saving a few miles and making Blakey doable in one day. This is what I plan to do next year on a reverse C2C in August ( after a first go at the Offas Dyke path).
Anyway best of luck.
I too plan to do the end to end, possibly in 2014, but JOGLE

My only recommendation is that you start with short distances over the first week. My unsuccessful attempt was caused by walking too far on the first few days trying to get a "good start", carrying a bit more weight in the rucksack than usual. Additionally taking short cuts on roads (as I had already walked the SWCP) for quite a distance rather than the usual grass. This all added up to severe pain in my hip that I presume was some sort of bruising it took some weeks to get better having abandoned after a few days. I had been perfectly OK walking the 630 miles of the SWCP 3 years before, subsequent walks every year c. 100/200 miles each have not caused a problem with the hip.

In my experience you'll meet plenty of company along the way! A mate of mine did it camping in September and as I recall he didn't book anyway and had no problems finding pitches.

Mind you I booked my B&Bs for May before Christmas! And happily walked it all with no - or little - company. Horses for courses!

Reluctantttrucker is dead right - it's probably not a pub crawl! hehe

How much company you have will depend on your starting day. I have walked the last two years setting off mid week & some days only met one or two fellow walkers. Will be leaving Wed 22 May 2013 using B&B & baggage transfer over 12 days. Did the walk 20 years ago carrying my own baggage & doing the high level routes. Time and two new knees have taken their toll but still a great experience on the lower routes. Remembering the steep drop from Kidsty Pike & the long trek along Haweswater I have cheated & taken the boat from Glenridding to Pooley Bridge & then done the reverse of the Westmorland Way stage to Shap via Roehead, Askham Fell, Whale, Bampton Grange, Rosgill, Shap. In order not to miss the transport from RHB I miss out Falling Foss. Walk up the road from Littlebeck to the B1416 & along the road & across Graystone Hills, cross the A171 & down the road opposite to Fyling Hall. Then across the fields to come down past the fish & chip shop into RHB. If you are not tied for time then this short cut is not necessary.
