Will be starting my 2nd crossing on 5 May. My first walk in September 2004 I was able to get thru customs at Manchester and get right on a train to St Bees arriving in time to walk up the Head to Sandwith. Now it seems the train schedule does not go directly to St Bees. Will the train schedule change in the spring to make this possible? If not what will be the the best way to St Bees?

There are no trains direct from Manchester to St.Bees that I know of but you can get a train from Manchester to Lancaster then one direct from Lancaster to StBees but check the timetable as some trains terminate at Barrow and then you would have to get a train from Barrow to St Bees and the last train from Barrow to St Bees is about 5pm but there are trains that do go right through to St Bees from Lancaster so check the timetable to see which ones do, or alternatly catch a train from Manchester to Carlisle and then one from Carlisle to St Bees but again check the timetable as some trains terminate at Whitehaven but again some trains do go right through from Carlisle to St Bees.
