Just finished a portion of the Dalesway, ( Buckden to Bowness). My first half attempt at a long distance path and I hope the start of many more.

Highs

The beer along the way, didnt get a bad pint anywhere ( samples at Station Inn Ribblehead, The Dalesman Sedburgh and The Eagle and Child Stavely).

The section from Buckden up to Oughtersahaw is a delight as is the view down Dentdale if you walk the route variation through Ribblehead and over the shoulder of Wherneside.

The old schoolhouse / Church in Oughtershaw, a fantastic venetion style building in a hamlet of about 4 farms ( anyone know more?)

Lows

The section around the forest after Camhouses where unnoficial signs abound and i,m convinced take you away from the real route.

Cam high road, this should be one of the best sections with glorious views but the whole path has been destroyed by scrambler bikes and 4*4s and was downright dangerous after baking solid in the sun. Some ruts were several feet deep.

Negotiating farms that try to hide thw route, The farm at Hag end being the worst offender, old roofing slates dumped over path, entrance to farmyard was gated with no signs and some nasty sounding dogs in the barn.

However a great walk, feet are already feeling better and I wish I had had time to do the whole thing.

Maybe next year.
